Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
The Embrace Statue - Dr. Martin Luther King Jr & Mrs. Coretta Scott King
The Embrace statue is located in Boston, MA (USA). It is meant to represent a warm hug between Dr. Martin Luther King Jr and Mrs. Coretta Scott King (his wife).
It’s inspiration was a 1964 photograph of the couple hugging after Dr. King was announced as the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize. It’s creator, artist Hank Willis Thomas drew inspiration from the love and respect that the Kings had for each other.
The hands and arms interwoven in the sculpture can also be viewed as shared senses of commitment, strength and unity.
Embarking on this day of celebrations, we join in committing ourselves to shared purpose, humanity and equality.
Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day!!
